
Plagued by shootouts, armed robberies and extortion by cartels, the city of Monterrey, Mexico’s third largest city, is said to be in danger of “falling” to organized crime. For 42-year old Laura, the uncertainty of everyday living hasn’t been easy.
Working as a nanny for many years, she found herself unemployed once the children grew older and she was no longer needed as a nanny. Despite her years of experience with children, she struggled to find work.
Sowers Fund was able to help Laura enrol in a Teacher’s Assistant training course that would provide her the right credentials to work at a school. After graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 2016, Laura was able to find a great job at a daycare. And she is loving it!
