Considered one of the poorest nations in the world, Malawi is located in southeast Africa and is often plagued with extreme rain conditions that cause long enduring droughts and dangerous land flooding.
However, given the fertile land, the Malawi government provided its citizens free land to cultivate maize crops. Although an important first step, most Malawians still have no money for seed and fertilizer, and have been unable to take advantage of this offer.
Thanks to the generous donors of the Sowers Fund, eight individuals from the Dedza region of Malawi received the much-needed funding to purchase seeds, fertilizer and equipment. They started tilling the land last fall and were able to harvest 25 bags of maize each weighing 50kgs.
With the help of our donors, healing has finally begun.

Plagued by shootouts, armed robberies and extortion by cartels, the city of Monterrey, Mexico’s third largest city, is said to be in danger of “falling” to organized crime. For 42-year old Laura, the uncertainty of everyday living hasn’t been easy.
Working as a nanny for many years, she found herself unemployed once the children grew older and she was no longer needed as a nanny. Despite her years of experience with children, she struggled to find work.
Sowers Fund was able to help Laura enrol in a Teacher’s Assistant training course that would provide her the right credentials to work at a school. After graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 2016, Laura was able to find a great job at a daycare. And she is loving it!

Nearly 81.2% of Togo’s rural population lives under the global poverty line. For Simeon and his family, their struggle to stay above this line was a daily worry. Married with four daughters to provide for, he did whatever he could to bring in an income.
Despite his struggles, Simeon had a flair for business, and was keen to get into the photography and videography business — a booming industry in Togo where customers spare no expense in capturing their special events.
Simeon registered his Photography & Videography agency and hired a small team, working out of his home. However, investing in equipment rather than borrowing them, was critical for him to stay out of debt. This is where Sowers Fund comes in. With funding provided by our donors, Simeon and Priscelle were able to purchase cameras for their business and are delighted to finally start bringing home a regular income.
